Welcome to The Art of Dr. Seuss Collection

For over 60 years, Dr. Seuss’s illustrations have brought a visual realization to his fantastic and imaginary worlds. His artistic talent went far beyond the printed page and yet, to this day, his Secret Art Collection is virtually unknown to the general public. Throughout his lifetime, Theodor Seuss Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss) created paintings and sculpture which he secreted away at the Dr. Seuss Estate.

In 1997, this dream was realized when The Art of Dr. Seuss project was launched. For the first time collectors were able to see and acquire fine art prints and sculpture reproduced from Geisel’s original drawings and paintings. In her introduction to the collection Audrey Geisel wrote, “I remember telling Ted that there would come a day when many of his paintings would be seen and he would thus share with his fans another facet of himself – his private self. That day has come. I am glad.”

This historic project has opened the world’s eyes to the unique artistic talent of Dr. Seuss and, as such, galleries, museums, and collectors have helped make Audrey Geisel’s promise, and Dr. Seuss’s dream, a reality.

Love and Music”

In 1957, Random House named Ada Vine as Production Manager of the newly formed Beginner Books division, which Ted oversaw. The Cat in the Hat was their first project together, followed in 1960 by the blockbuster Green Eggs and Ham. Ada would work alongside Dr. Seuss for the next 20 years.

On the occasion of her retirement in 1977, Ted painted Love and Music as a seemingly self-satirizing homage to their many years spent together. Here we see Ted in a confluence of iconic characters from those two early projects with Ada, The Cat in the Hat and Sam-I-am’s famous antagonist from Green Eggs and Ham. Love and Music was presented to Ada Vine at her retirement party
